Why to visit Blue Mountains in Australia?

The world famous Blue Mountains are approx. One and half hour drive from Sydney City Centre. So it is perfect for a day trip. We recommend you to give it a chance and spend a night here.

It offers plenty of hiking through the rainforest, spectacular lookouts and great restaurants and pubs.

You can do some unforgettable canyoning, caving and rock climbing experiences in spectacular World Heritage wilderness, and stunning mountain biking and horse riding trails. There are 140km of walking tracks, so why not do some bush walking?

Where to stay in Blue Mountains

When we visited Blue Mountains, we stayed for two nights at Katoomba. Katoomba is the most visited town in the Blue Mountains.

Staying in Katoomba means that you have the Three Sisters, Katoomba Falls, Scenic World and multiple hikes all within walking distance.

We arrived late afternoon, had some pleasant walk, and went to a visitor’s center. Just to check what they offer and for a small chat. We headed then to Echo Point Lookout, which offered spectacular views over Blue Mountains and Famous Three Sisters.

The Echo Point Lookout

Echo Point is located in Katoomba on the edge of the spectacular Jamison Valley. It is home to the famous Three Sisters and you can view them best from this lookout.

You’ll also be able to see other impressive rock formations from this lookout, including the Ruined Castle and Mount Solitary.

The lookout is the gateway to many great walks, from the easy, family-friendly pathway out to the Three Sisters to the more challenging Giant Stairway that leads you down almost 1,000 stairs to the valley floor.

The Three Sisters

These three weathered sandstone peaks, rising nearly a kilometre above sea level, formed thousands of years ago through erosion. They are set among the cliffs of the Jamison Valley.

The Three Sisters is essentially an unusual rock formation representing three sisters who according to Aboriginal legend were turned to stone.

You can read more about the Legend here.

Let the adventure begin

They say a trip to the Blue Mountains wouldn’t be complete without visiting Scenic World.

You start this adventure by getting on the Scenic Cableway, which takes you across the Jamison Valley, taking views of the Three Sisters, Mount Solitary and Katoomba Falls. We must say right here that if you fear heights, this might be a challenge for you. Teri fears heights, so she basically stood in the middle of the cableway and didn’t move around. It was okay, and it is safe to say she would do it again. Felix enjoyed every minute of this Scenic Cableway.

The Scenic World Station

It will bring you to Scenic World Top Station. At the Top Station, you can purchase tickets and guests begin your Scenic World experience.

We went for the Scenic Railway, the world’s steepest incline railway, descending more than 400m (0.25 miles) down the escarpment. What a great ride!

Once you are down, you can experience the Scenic Skywalk. You walk right in the middle of the rainforest. It is a significant experience and you can take your own pace and enjoy every bit of this walk.

The good thing is that you can purchase tickets for all the adventures and do them all. It is a great offer, so set up an alarm and hit this significant experience early in the morning. You don’t want to miss anything, right?
